Alpaca Walk Experience FAQ

Below you’ll find answers to the questions we hear every day, from what to wear and what happens if it rains, to whether you can fall in love with an alpaca in under ten minutes (you can).
How long is the alpaca walk?
Around 45–60 minutes, including a meet & greet with the herd so everyone can choose their new best friend first.

Are alpaca walks suitable for children?
Yes! Children of all ages can join us. Under 10s can’t lead an alpaca solo, but they can share with an adult.
What age can children walk an alpaca on their own?
10 years and over. Younger children are brilliant helpers but the alpacas insist on a responsible adult holding the lead.
Can two people share one alpaca?
Absolutely - alpacas are very sociable and happy to have more than one human. Just book one full adult ticket and a child/spectator ticket (£40 to share).
Can I bring a baby?
Yes, babes in arms do not need a ticket. A sling or baby carrier would be useful as our woodland walk is not pushchair friendly.
What should we wear?
Dress for the countryside, not a catwalk! Sturdy shoes or wellies are essential (especially in autumn/winter), and we recommend covering arms and legs - nettles and nature exist here. No sandals. No heels. The alpacas will judge you.

What happens if it rains?
We embrace the British experience and get a bit wet! If weather becomes unsafe (yellow/amber/red warning), we’ll contact you and move your booking to a nicer - ideally sunnier - day.

Are alpacas friendly?
Very. Calm, curious and mostly interested in snacks and compliments.

Can we feed the alpacas?
We don’t hand-feed freely because alpacas get competitive about food (and that’s when the spitting rumours start). We do give you treats at certain points so you can safely feed your alpaca - that way, everyone stays polite.

Is the walk private or with other guests?
Standard walks are small groups (max 8 people) so it never feels busy. If you want the herd to yourselves, book a Private Plod.

Do we get time to take photos?
Yes — lots! By the end, the alpacas usually pose better than the humans. We’ll even teach you the perfect alpaca selfie technique.

Can pregnant guests attend?
Yes — just contact us beforehand so we can match you with one of our most trustworthy alpacas.
Is the experience suitable for elderly or disabled visitors?
The walk is gentle but uneven woodland terrain, so not suitable for wheelchairs or walking aids.
We can arrange a relaxed meet & greet alternative tailored to you - just get in touch.
Do you offer gift vouchers?
Yes - alpacas make surprisingly excellent presents. You can purchase a gift voucher here
Can we bring dogs?
Sadly no. Our alpacas are convinced dogs are wolves in disguise and will refuse to cooperate entirely.
Is parking available?
Yes, we have free on-site parking with plenty of space.
Are there toilets?
Yes, two unisex toilets and hand washing facilities on site (no baby changing or accessible facilities at present).
Do alpacas spit? Technically yes. Realistically no - not at you.
Spitting usually happens on petting farms and zoos where people are walking around with bags of food and alpacas feel stressed about this. Because we manage feeding carefully, our alpacas are very polite… but we’ll try and warn you if they're about to break alpaca etiquette.
