Alpaca Walk Experience FAQ
Do alpacas spit? - we promise they’re far more polite than their reputation suggests! Below you’ll find answers to the questions we hear every day, from what to wear and what happens if it rains, to whether you can fall in love with an alpaca in under ten minutes (you can). If you’re still unsure about anything after reading, just get in touch - we’re always happy to talk alpacas!
How long is the alpaca walk?
Around 45–60 minutes, including a meet & greet with the herd so everyone can choose their new best friend first.
Do the animals enjoy the walking experience?
Yes - but only if they choose to. Alpacas and llamas are highly intelligent, curious animals that benefit from enrichment and mental stimulation. For many of our herd, meeting new people, exploring the woodland and enjoying a gentle walk is something they genuinely look forward to.
Every alpaca and llama has their own unique personality. Some absolutely love taking part in our experiences, while others would much rather stay in the field. We listen to the animals and only include those that are happy, relaxed and confident to join us.
In their native Andes, alpacas naturally spend much of their day walking while grazing across vast mountain landscapes. Llamas have worked alongside people for thousands of years as pack animals, travelling long distances through the mountains. While our woodland walks are far gentler, they provide many of our animals with the opportunity to explore, browse and engage with their surroundings in a way that feels natural to them.
