About our campsite

Set in over 12 acres of open meadows and woodland, The Darling Woods Of May is located on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds, 10 minutes drive from Pocklington in the East Riding of Yorkshire and just 20 minutes from the beautiful city of York.

We're rated 9.9 on Pitch Up, winner of the Best in Region Review Awards 2023 & 2024, Hipcamp Star Host Awards, 2024 and

This is the spot for you if you’re after a camping adventure amongst carefully nurtured, sustainably managed countryside.

Off-grid pitches are mown into long grass or tucked into woodland, so they all have a secluded, wild camping feel.

Off-grid 

There's no WIFI or electricity on our campsite (think 90's back to basics holiday!) You're welcome to visit our resident alpacas during your stay or book an alpaca experience. We recommend booking this in advance as spaces are limited. 

 

Campfires are also allowed at our campsite - because, what's the point of camping without a campfire?! You can bring your own firepit (so long as it is raised off the ground) or hire one for the night. 

 

Surrounded by farmland and open fields - the skies are dark here & it's the perfect spot for stargazing.

To help preserve the natural beauty of our meadows and maintain that special wild camping feel, we don’t allow cars to drive onto the campsite itself. This helps protect the landscape and keeps the site looking beautiful for everyone to enjoy.

But don’t worry – our free car park is just a short walk away, less than two minutes from your pitch. We also provide green trollies to make it easy for you to transport your gear.

  • This is a peaceful site. If you're looking for a busy site with holiday entertainment and want to play loud music, then we're not the right match for you!​

  • Families from the same household, solo campers or couples only.

  • We do not accept group bookings. 

  • Due to alpacas on site. No dogs allowed - even well behaved ones! 

  • Tents only. 

 

​​Our campsite is designed for peaceful, quiet stays with widely spaced pitches to offer a sense of seclusion. Groups aren’t allowed, including separate bookings made with the intention of camping together. 

We really appreciate your understanding in helping us keep the site calm and special for everyone.
